Social

Heald Green United Reformed Church is a very sociable community church, with a wide choice of activities for all ages. To see activities and clubs just for younger ones, visit ‘Children, Young People’, on our menu. Below is a list of activities for older people in our community, as well as our Activities Night, which is for all ages together.

But first:- We now have a Public Access Defibrillator on the front wall of the Church. A call to 999, in the event of a heart attack in or near our Church Building will produce information about its situation and its Access Code, with further advice on how to use the device. Paramedic follow up will ensue as soon as possible. Follow this link for an instructional video on the use of this particular model:-

rummikub_mainWednesday evenings 7.30 pm – 10.00 pm is a club night evening suitable for all ages.  All sorts of pleasurable activities are possible. ‘Rummikubs’ is the current front runner!

It’s just a pound to join in the fun, and refreshments are also available if you work up a thirst.

Coffee Morning (first Saturday in the month, 10.30 am)

cup and saucerOn the 1st Saturday of each month a Coffee Morning is held at our church, from 10.30 am – 12.00 pm. It’s a chance to meet friends old and new, enquire about our church or simply to enjoy the company for a while. There is no charge for any of the refreshments (though often people do wish to make a small donation) so no one should feel excluded. And of course, all our hot drinks and many of our snacks are Fairtrade. Why? Because we believe they should be!

Warm Space (Monday afternoons, 1.00 pm to 5.00pm, weekly from November until March)

Our Warm Space initiative enables anyone to drop in and enjoy a free hot drink, Wi-Fi access, magazines & newspapers, book borrowing/swapping and charging facilities.  We are pleased to be able to support this country-wide initiative with the other members of Churches Together in Heald Green and provide a warm welcome to anyone in need during difficult times.

Columba Club (Ladies) (Tuesday afternoons, 2.00 pm, fortnightly)

Columba Club is a Ladies’ Group which meets fortnightly on Tuesday afternoons. There is no official membership, all ladies and friends being welcome, whether attending regularly or whenever the programme is of particular interest. We enjoy a varied programme of Speakers, Demonstrations and Club Afternoons, as well as an annual Christmas Dinner and a Summer Outing. A small subscription is paid on attendance, to cover refreshments and professional Speakers’ fees.

Faith and Fellowship (Tuesday afternoons, 2.30 pm, fortnightly)

Our Faith and Fellowship group meets on Tuesday afternoons from 2:30 until about 4:00, alternating with Columba Club. We have decided to explore some of the parables using a book called Parables – The Greatest Stories Ever Told by John White, published by Scripture Union. If you would like a copy of the material to have a look at before the session, then please speak to Caron Small, or just come along on Tuesday 18 October and join in the discussion. We might find ourselves going off down some interesting paths, but it all aids our discovery and helps us as we seek to apply God’s Word into our daily lives. Everyone is welcome, so please come and see for yourselves what Faith and Fellowship is all about!
